LightningTrax™ Reports

LightningTrax is an objective lightning verification report which confirms the presence or absence of lightning strikes at a given address on a specific date(s).  LightningTrax reports are ordered and received via the Internet and can be utilized on an as needed basis.

Every LightningTrax report includes a search of the USPLN archive, a detailed color street-level map, a user-defined search period of 1 to 72 hours, a search radius as small as one (1) mile or up to 15 mile radius, a print out of each lightning stroke detected, including: date, time, latitude, longitude, polarity, amplitude and range bearing (from the search location to each lightning stroke). The report is viewed on-line and stored as a .pdf in each customer’s account. See our sample report.

LightningTrax reports are derived from the archives of the United States Precision Lightning Network (USPLN). A Stroke of Genius™, is more than just a phrase, it embodies the USPLN’s combination of the very latest technology (communications infrastructure, lightning sensing technologies, etc) with decades of research and real-world experience detecting lightning and producing accurate lightning verification reports. Installed in 2004, the USPLN optimizes today’s best technology with the scientific foundation of time-of-arrival lightning detection technology.

Application
LightningTrax™ Reports confirm the presence or absence of (cloud-to-ground) lightning strikes at a particular address (or intersection) within the Continental United States. Claims adjusters, forensic engineers, arson investigators, self-insured property owners, and attorneys are the most common customer of LightningTrax reports. The largest application is claim confirmation by the property/casualty insurance industry.

Each year, hundreds of thousands of insurance claims are submitted by residential and commercial property owners. Independent verification of lightning strikes can assist in the expedient handling of the claim.
